I was just thinkin’ there’s something satisfying about dogs in the yard. It’s a peaceful kind of feeling. A comforting feeling. If you’re a dog person, you get it. If not, you may be bored with this post. When we dog lovers look out and see our dogs taking a nap, we somehow feel relaxed. And we get a kick out of watching them play. This is why dog reels on Facebook and Instagram are so popular. The simplicity of their lives and their funny antics give us joy.
I’ve had dogs so long that I can’t imagine life without a dog in my yard. Personalities certainly varied over the years, but watching how they interact with other dogs and their human families always entertains. Their goofiness - chasing bugs, napping on their backs with their legs in the air, chasing each other like we would play a game of tag - brings a smile.
It’s even heartwarming the way our dogs want to stay close to us and how they make it a point to be involved in whatever we are doing. At times, of course, they want us to stop whatever we are doing and be involved in what they want us to do - usually related to a ball, a stick, or a favorite toy. Then there are the back scratches and ear rubs which they somehow talk us into even though they don’t speak it in words.
Dogs in the yard make us forget our worries and everyday stresses. I often think about a comment I heard my mom make when I was young while the dogs were just hanging out, napping on the porch. She’d notice them, glance over, and almost sigh, “I wish I had only their worries.” At the time, her comment went over my head. But now, whenever I’m stressed about something, her thought comes to mind, and I remember the lesson we can learn from our laid-back pets. .
Dogs in the yard simply makes life good.
So, how can you relate? How do your dogs give you joy? Or is it something else in your yard (or your home) that makes life good for you? Email and share. I’d love to hear from you.
