So You Want to Self-publish a Children's Book

When folks learn that I have self-published a few children’s book, I’m often asked how to get started. Those who ask may want to begin a business of publishing or they may simply want to create one book for someone special. Either way, they simply don’t know how or where to begin.

Me being me, I want to lead each of them in the right direction. I love my journey as a children’s book author. I’ve enjoyed the writing, the work, the learning, the new friendships, the networking, and all the growing pains of being an indie author of children’s books.

But it has been work. I could not have done it while I was working a full time job. I needed time to learn all that I needed to know to get to where I’m at today. I spent much of my retired life (I’m more than three years retired now) learning the challenges of becoming an indie author. I read multiple books, searched the internet, and watched YouTube videos. I took online courses about self-publishing, building an author business, and being an author in general. I made LOTS of notes and created checklists. I revised those notes as I learned more or differently. I’m still learning. Thank goodness I love to learn.

So because many have asked, and the only good answer I can provide will take some time, I recently molded my notes, checklists, and my learning into a book. It is a guide that will get you started on your way to self-publishing a children’s picture book. It will be a place for you to record your learning as you begin your journey to becoming a children’s book author.
