Do you have the right mindset for self-publishing a children’s book?

You might think that publishing a children’s book is easy, but it takes a particular mindset to do it well.

By choosing to self-publish, you are choosing a challenge. It’s not as easy as it sounds. To do it well, you must put in the effort needed to create, learn, collaborate, and market a quality product. Although there is work ahead, if you are willing to put in the time and work, you can create a children’s book that you are proud to share with others.

So, are you ready to be what is needed to make your self-publishing dream a reality? Let’s check your mindset.

Be patient. Self-publishing a children’s book is a time-consuming endeavor. Don’t be in a hurry. It is important to take your time and do it well. Creating a quality product takes time. Pack your patience.

Be a learner. There is a lot to learn about self-publishing, a lot of details to consider, and many decisions to make. Enjoy the learning process and the time it takes to improve as you learn.

Be positive. Sometimes things won’t work out exactly how you wanted or what you need to learn may be challenging. Take it all in stride and don’t allow yourself to get discouraged or overwhelmed. Just take a deep breath if needed and keep moving forward on your author journey. Small steps still move you along.

Be intentional. Everything counts in a children’s book: every word, every punctuation mark, every capitalized word, every font change, every bold word. You get the point. Even the white space matters. These provide clues to how the text should be read. Being intentional means you are holding yourself to a high standard.

Mindset checked. Go!
